Shipping & Returns

Shipping Information

If you are not in the Northern Virginia area, we cannot serve you at this time. If you are a CSA
member, anything you order on the store will be delivered in your regular
weekly delivery. If you are not a CSA member or if the CSA has not started
or has finished for the season, there will be a small delivery charge
(currently $15). Items from the store need to be paid for at the time of
purchase using Paypal.  If you are not going to be home when the
delivery truck comes by, let us know where to put your stuff.  Our boxes
are heavy corrugated and we will pack some ice inside when it is warm
out, but we generally need a dry, cool, shady spot.  Make sure it is a
place you will see your box and not forget it!  If you are out of town,
tell us to whom we should give your box!  Be sure to refrigerate
everything except tomatoes as soon as possible.

Return policy

All our products are fresh and for your safety we accept no returns.  If
you have a quality issue, please tell the driver right away or contact us
right away by telephone or email. We wash everything, salads many times,
but if something crawls out of your salad, just take it as assurance that
the product is both fresh and safe even to God's smallest creatures.

Salads are very delicate.  Some wilting is normal.  If you chill it or
rinse it under cold water, it will recover.  Occasionally, we have a
plague that leaves product with defects.  We will generally remove any
product with cosmetic defects, but if you get something that is not
perfect cosmetically,  we likely had only the choice to throw it away and
give you nothing or pass it on the way it is.  Please do not freak out if
you see occasional bugs or occasional holes in leaves.  We use fabric to
protect our salads from bugs, but the peppery arugula and mustard are
serious beetle magnets. We use friendly nematodes to control the beetles
during the larva stage in the soil, but our neighbors are inevitably
hatching beetles and so they are constantly coming around for free meals.

We pick only ripe tomatoes. Real vine ripe organic tomatoes get soft
quickly.  Slice tomatoes with a serrated knife.  Do not refrigerate them.
If you want a tomato that stays firm for weeks, try the Sherrif.  They are
a large plum tomato, with a great taste that are hard even weeks after
they are picked.  They are excellent for pico de gallo or tomato salads
which have to hold up a long time on the plate.  Otherwise, use tomatoes
within a few days of receiving them.
